Unit 5: Comparing animals: different texts about same animal

Information Fluency

  • Finds books by favorite authors using A-Z organization of picture books. (Info Fluency 1.3.1) SEE UNIT 2
  • Begins to use Dewey numbers for ABC books, 123 books, fairy tales, dinosaurs (Info Fluency 1.3.1) SEE UNIT 4
  • Finds books on own interests with assistance (Info Fluency 2.3.1 & 2.3.6) SEE UNIT 4

ELA Integration

  • Poetry and Songs: Start off each library session with a song or poem written on chart paper.
  • Fiction vs. Nonfiction(not real vs. real): Reading fun stories about animals and interesting non-fiction books about animals (Info Fluency 2.1.6)
    • Where the Wild Things Are, Cinder-eyed Cats, and The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear
    • Nonfiction titles about dinosaurs, big cats, bears, mice, and strawberries.
  • Enjoying fiction books to wonder: What would happen if... discussions
  • Using non-fiction books to learn: Asks simple questions & finds facts using bins of nonfiction books (Info Fluency 1.3.13)
